Uganda Appoints an Honorary Consul in Freetown, Sierra Leone
Uganda has appointed Mr. Deepak Bhurani as Honorary Consul in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This was revealed by Amb. Nelson Ocheger, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Sierra Leone (resident in Abuja), as he formally introduced the new Honorary Consul to Hon. Francess Alghali, Sierra Leone’s Ag. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Amb. Ocheger said the Honorary Consul’s office will be a liaison between Uganda High Commission in Abuja and Uganda’s interests in Sierra Leone. Currently, Uganda High Commission is accredited to 16 countries (all Ecowas plus Equatorial Guinea). Honorary Consuls are therefore appointed in different capitals to assist the High Commission in reaching out for Uganda’s interests in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Mr. Bhurani is a successful businessman based in Freetown and, as Honorary Consul, will work to promote trade, investment and other forms of economic cooperation between Uganda and Sierra Leone. The appointment of Mr. Bhurani and opening of an office in Freetown is therefore an important milestone in deepening relations between Uganda and Sierra Leone.
The Minister thanked the government of Uganda for appointing an Honorary Consul in Sierra Leone and said this will further strengthen the existing cordial relations between Sierra Leone and Uganda. She said it was now time for the two countries to increase cooperation between the two countries especially in areas of agriculture, agro-processing and value addition.
