Nigeria Pledges Support to Uganda

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hon. Geoffrey Onyeama, has said his country will continue to support Uganda's democratic and development processes. This was during a meeting with Uganda's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Nelson Ocheger who called on the Minister in Abuja.

Hon. Onyeama congratulated President Museveni on his victory during the January 14th, 2021 Presidential elections, adding that Nigeria considers Uganda an important partner in Eastern Africa.

The Minister also reiterated support to the process leading to the review of Nigeria-Uganda Joint Permanent Commission as it will open avenues for scaling up cooperation in many areas such as trade.

Amb. Nelson Ocheger thanked the Nigerian government for granting permission to Uganda Airlines to ply Lagos route. He however, reminded his host of Uganda's request for agreement on Abuja route as well. In his response, Hon. Onyeama thanked the government of Uganda for reviving Uganda Airlines and hoped that it would facilitate economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries
The meeting was attended by the Counsellor at the Uganda High Commission in Abuja, Ms. Judith Assimwe.
