Monday, 22nd January 2018
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Togo has been urged to cooperate with the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) as a way of improving commercial and economic cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries. This call was made by the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Uganda to Togo, H.E. Nelson Ocheger while meeting the President of the Togolese Chamber, Mr. Germain Essohouna Meba. The meeting took place on January 19th, 2018 in Lome, the capital city of Togo.

Amb. Ocheger informed his host of the vibrancy of the private sector in Uganda owing to the conducive environment created by Government of Uganda. He emphasized that increased commercial relations between the Ugandan and Togolese private sectors was one of the ways through which the two countries would reduce dependence to external aid. He urged the two Chambers to scale up trade cooperation since both exist in the regional blocs that constitute reasonable markets for different products and services from both countries.

In his response, Mr. Germain Essohouna Meba informed his guest of his commitment to working with the leadership of the UNCCI. He revealed that owing to his position as President of the Confederation of the Chambers of Commerce in the Francophone area, he will encourage other national chambers in the region to initiate bilateral relations with the UNCCI.
Mr. Germain Essohouna Meba added that cooperation between the two chambers would also fast track the development of transport infrastructure between West and East Africa.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Togolese Chamber, Mr. Koffi Patale and Ms. Karine Adotevi Edoh and Mr. Nurh Byarufu, the Minister Counselor at the Uganda High Commission.
